4x4 - Economy and touring

Economy and touring tunes.

Calibration for diesel 4x4s focused on rolling torque, clean cruise and long-distance reliability. Less hunting, more pulling, lower fuel use.

Touring tunes are not a soft version of a power tune. They are a calibration written around how a fully loaded 4x4 actually moves over a long day on Australian roads.

We focus on the part of the rev range you spend most of your time in, on the gear the truck wants to hold on a long climb at GVM, and on EGT discipline through long midday runs in summer.

Steady cruise economy usually improves. Hunting between gears on hills is reduced, sometimes dramatically. Long days behind the wheel get less tiring because the truck does what you ask the first time.

What you get

What this build or tune delivers.

  • Calibration biased to rolling torque and cruise response
  • Transmission shift map tuned to stop hunting under load
  • EGT and trans temp targets safe for sustained running
  • DPF retained and tuned to regen cleanly on long trips
  • Optional before and after dyno run available for $250

FAQ

Common questions.

Will I really see better fuel economy?
On a steady highway cruise, usually yes. The engine is doing the same work at lower load, in a higher gear, where modern diesels are most efficient. We will be honest about expectations for your specific truck.
Is this just a soft tune?
No. It is a calibration focused on the rolling torque and response you actually use on a touring trip, rather than a peak headline number. The truck still feels stronger.
Will it stress the engine on long trips?
The opposite. A calibration written for cruise and load is generally easier on the engine than a peak-chasing tune, because it spends less time at high boost and high EGT.
Do you tune the auto too?
Yes where the platform allows. Gear hunting on long climbs is one of the biggest fuel users on a stock 4x4 with a heavy load.
Which platforms is this offered on?
Any modern diesel 4x4 we tune, including Ranger, HiLux, D-Max, LandCruiser 70, 200 and 300 Series, Patrol Y62 (petrol), Amarok, Navara, Triton, BT-50 and MU-X.
