Loaded touring 4x4 wagon towing a caravan on a dusty outback South Australian road

Pillar 02

4x4 tuning in Adelaide, calibrated for the load.

Diesel tow tuning, touring and economy calibration, DPF and EGR diagnostics and reliability work for utes, wagons and 4x4s across South Australia. Logged, road tested, DPF retained.

Tuned for how you actually use it

Common-rail diesels respond well to a calibration written around your real load. Towing a 3.5 tonne van up the Adelaide Hills behaves nothing like unladen daily driving, and the file should reflect that.

We tune for safe EGT and transmission temperature behaviour under load, and we log every run. We do not chase a marketing number at the expense of the gearbox or the turbo.

Platforms

Pick your truck.

Each platform has its own page with scope of work, indicative figures and platform-specific answers.

Built for South Australian distances

Most of the trucks on our dyno spend their weekends somewhere hot and a long way from a workshop. The Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas, the Flinders, the Riverland and station country all ask different things of a diesel than a commute to the city does.

That is why the calibration target is EGT, transmission temperature and fuel system margin first, and peak power second. A truck that pulls hard and runs cool is worth more than a graph.

Why calibration, not a generic file

The headroom is real, but it is yours.

A factory diesel calibration has to survive poor fuel, extreme ambient temperatures, neglected servicing and a fleet operator who will never open the bonnet. That conservatism is sensible for the manufacturer, and it is exactly where the honest gains sit for an owner who maintains the truck properly.

A generic file cannot account for your tyre size, your gearing, your tow weight, your intercooler or the condition of your intake. We write to the truck in front of us, log it, road test it, and prove it on our own dyno when you add a run. Starting figures for 4x4 and diesel work are on the pricing page, and real logged gains are on builds and results.

We will also tell you when the answer is no. If a platform is marginal, or the gain does not justify the spend on your truck, that conversation happens before you book rather than after the car is in the workshop.

Process

How a 4x4 tune runs here.

  1. 01

    Consultation and health check

We talk about the truck, the load and where you drive it, then check the basics: fault codes, service history, intercooler, intake and any existing hardware.

  2. 02

    Baseline logging

The original calibration is read and backed up, then the truck is logged as it sits so we know what the engine, turbo and transmission are actually doing before anything changes.

  3. 03

    Calibration written to the truck

Fuelling, boost, timing and torque limits are written for your specific vehicle, hardware, tyre size and load, not pulled off a shelf for a model range.

  4. 04

    Dyno development (if opted in)

If you add dyno time, the truck goes on our in-house dyno so the calibration can be refined and repeated under load. Dyno runs are an optional add-on at $250, not part of every tune.

  5. 05

    Road validation

Loaded and unloaded, hills, cruise and stop-start traffic. EGT, transmission temperature and fuelling are watched the whole way.

  6. 06

    Handover

We walk you through what was changed and how the truck should behave loaded. If a dyno run was included, we go through the graph with you before you leave.

Workshop visits and consultations are by appointment only. Book a consultation to get your truck in front of us.

FAQ

Common questions.

What does a 4x4 tune actually change?
Fuelling, boost and timing are re-mapped for the way you use the truck, and on most modern platforms the transmission is calibrated as well. The gain you feel is rolling torque in the gear you tow or touring in, not a peak number on a graph.
Do you delete DPF or EGR?
No. We keep the factory emissions hardware and calibrate around it so the regen cycle still completes properly on your driving pattern. If a DPF is already blocked we diagnose the cause first rather than tune over it.
Is a dyno run included?
No. Every tune is logged and road tested as standard. A before and after dyno run is an optional add-on at $250, because dyno time costs us time on the cell.
Will a tune hurt reliability or fuel economy?
A calibration written around EGT, transmission temperature and fuelling limits should not shorten the life of the truck. Steady cruise economy usually improves or stays the same, because the engine is doing the same work at lower load in a higher gear.
Which 4x4 platforms do you cover?
HiLux, Prado, LandCruiser 70, 200 and 300 Series, Ranger and Raptor, D-Max and MU-X, Navara and Patrol, Triton and Pajero Sport, Amarok and BT-50. Both pre and post DPF eras.
Do you tune for towing specifically?
Yes, and it is a different calibration to a daily tune. Tell us the tow weight, tyre size, gearing and where you drive, and the file is written for that load rather than for an unladen dyno pull.
